To find what you seek, you must learn to ask great questions. After all, an answer is only as good as a question.

A good question leads to a clear answer. However, we will start by deconstructing two terrible questions. Questions that have no clear answer.

“What will make me happy?”

This is too obscure. Does this refer to short term satisfaction or long-term gratification? If it’s long term gratification, how can we ensure that it will serve us in the way we wish. 

“What will make me fulfilled?”

Not only does this question leave us running around like a headless chicken, it also suggests that we will remain unfulfilled until a specific outcome has been achieved.

To be completely open about this topic, I believe that this sort of question is emotional self-harm! Essentially, it’s like saying “I am not of value, I am pointless!”

Asking Clear Questions

Find a question that you can answer right now. This is the only way to generate actionable steps.

To this point, I want to give you an alternative set of questions to the ones you read above.

“What makes me excited?”

The simple act of reading this question can be enough to cause an endorphin release. You may read this text and picture yourself playing your favorite song on an acoustic guitar, throwing a ball for your pet dog to fetch or taking a bike ride through the country side.

More elaborate visions may come to mind such as holidays, your dream house and a brand-new car.

Happiness comes from excitement.

“How can I make the biggest impact?”

Impact is a metric. Fulfillment cannot be measured.  We don’t have a build in fulfillment meter but what we do have paper to write down numbers.

Finding out how you can best impact people may be done through two simple steps.

STEP #1: Your Skill Set

Your skill set often comes from your hobby or your career. This may be a sport, craft or an industry specific ability. You may have a skill within a skill. For example, a basketball player who’s particularly effective at passing or an illustrator who prefers to use chalk over pencil. Go deep and be unique.

STEP #2: Mediums

If you are to take your ideas to the internet, you may reach thousands of people through a YouTube or a written blog such as this one. However, you must try to reach your target audience and with more and more online personas opening each day, it’s not an easy task. Sales and marketing training are of great value.
